If That Point Should Hinder the Peace Treaty, Other Options Can Be Offered: Agazaryan
The citizens of Artsakh have declared their independence for quite some time and are moving along this path to have their independence recognized by the world, particularly by Azerbaijan. This was stated by MP Hovik Agazaryan of the ruling Civil Contract party in an interview with Aysor.am, responding to the statement made by Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister.
Agazaryan also noted that the peace agreement to be signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan should not be linked to the issue of Artsakh. “Therefore, Bayramov's good intentions regarding the signing of the peace treaty and later looking for various pretexts not to sign are part of their approach. We cannot remain indifferent to the fate of our compatriots, and this should not be considered interference in Azerbaijan's internal affairs as Bayramov may have suggested. If that point is to interfere with the signing of a peace treaty, we can consider what equivalent agreements can be reached,” he said.
Another ruling party member, Lilit Minasian, added that the Armenian government's position is that the rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh should be addressed through dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert with the involvement of international mechanisms. “This position has not changed, the next round of negotiations will occur soon, and I believe that our positions will remain the same during the negotiations. Their foreign ministry states one thing, and our foreign ministry states the opposite,” she noted.
It should be recalled that today, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Armenia's demand for special guarantees for the Armenian minority in Karabakh is tantamount to interference in Azerbaijan's affairs.
